Profile
Neurotransmitter receptors act as a bridge between cells in the central and peripheral nervous systems and are required for various physiological activities. The molecular mechanisms by which they operate during their cell-to-cell communication are mostly unclear. In India, non-communicable neurological diseases have doubled, from 4.0 % in 1990 to 8.2 % in 2019. Stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, schizophrenia, depression, and drug addiction are common problems. Our research group seeks to understand the biophysical and molecular processes of neurotransmitter receptors during normal and pathological conditions. The lab employs cutting-edge computational and biophysical methods to monitor single receptor molecules in real-time to decipher their functional mechanisms.
