Eligibility
1. Dr. M. R. Das Career Award
This award, which will be given every year, will be for the best overall performance in the PhD programme in terms the cumulative points gathered during the PhD tenure. The points will be computed as follows:

PhD students, who submit their thesis within five years from the date of their PhD Registration, and secure 80 points or above are eligible for the award.

Of the total points earned, a minimum of 70 points should be from item numbers 1 to 4.

Points earned till seven days before the day of thesis viva voce/ open defense will be considered for the award. Only activities (as cited above) based on the research data generated during the PhD tenure in RGCB only will be considered for calculating the points.

There is no upper limit for the number of awards given in a year. All the candidates, who satisfy the mandatory eligibility criteria, will be selected for the award.

The award will be declared on the day of the viva voce / open defense. The award will be presented on the following RGCB Foundation Day (November 18) to the student or in his/her absence, to a designated representative.
2. RGCB Student Travel Grant Award
RGCB Student Travel Grant Award will be given to eligible PhD students who have made:
a. A first author, single publication in a journal with an impact factor
of 5 or above
Or
b. Multiple, first author publications with a cumulative impact factor
of 8 or above

Conditions
- The papers published/accepted for publication must be based on work done at RGCB alone within four years from the day of joining the Institute.
- Multiple co-authorships do not qualify for the award.
- Travel grant will be given only once in the PhD tenure of a student.
- The travel grant will be tenable for one year from the day of declaring the grant award or till the submission of the PhD thesis, whichever is earlier.
- Travel grant will be provided only if the student has been selected for a poster or oral presentation overseas.

The grant includes cheapest round trip airfare by Air India in the shortest route and in addition a maximum of $400 (or its equivalent) to meet contingent expenditure, such as registration/ boarding/ lodging. All travel and other expenses will be approved only as per the norms and rules of the Government of India and RGCB. The awardee should produce an undertaking countersigned by the supervisor that the expenditure has not been claimed or will not be claimed from other funding agencies and has not been provided by the organizers. The candidates should take appropriate approvals before the travel, and claim the permissible expenditure such as airfare and contingent expenditure by producing bills/vouchers.
3. Merit award of the year
This award is given under two categories:
(i) PhD students
(ii) Project fellows
The award will based on an oral presentation of the research data. The presentation will be for 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes of discussion.
Conditions

PhD students, who have completed three years or above and project fellows, who have completed two years or above, from the day of joining RGCB will be eligible.

An Award committee consisting of distinguished International and/or National Scientists will evaluate the presentation. No RGCB faculty will be on the committee.

Three awards will be given every year; two for the best PhD student presentations and one for the project JRFs. Those who do not win the award in first attempt can apply in the subsequent sessions.

Only one award will be given to a student in his PhD/project tenure

Application procedure for the awards and travel grants
For the M.R Das Merit Award and the RGCB Travel Grant Award, applications should be submitted in the prescribed format to the office of the Dean, where documents will be verified and eligible candidates will be recommended to the Director for consideration for the award. Applications for both awards can be submitted at any time in the year. The Director’s decision will be final and binding in the execution of the award.
For the Merit Award of the Year, application should be submitted on or before October 15th, every year.
