Research

Calcium/calmodulin dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is a neuronal enzyme with broad substrate specificity. In response to NMDA mediated calcium influx CaMKII gets activated and activated CaMKII translocates to the post synaptic density where it regulates other proteins. Current work focuses on:

  1. Investigating the interactions of CaMKII with the subunits of NMDA receptor and also other substrates and the physiological relevance of these interactions.
  2. Mass spectrometric study on the topography of CaMKII
  3. Establishment of a high throughput assay system for the screening of protein kinase inhibitors.
  4. Bioprospecting of neuroprotectants focusing on phytomodulators of CaMKII and deciphering their mode of action
