Conservation of endemic frog species of Western Ghats is an integral part of the ongoing conservation studies at RGCB. Here we are applying various population as well as conservation genetic tools to understand the genetic and population structure of endemic Indirana frogs of Western Ghats with a view to develop conservation measures to supplement the bioprospecting potentials of amphibians of Western Ghats.

Linear alpha-helical peptides are amongst the most abundant and widespread AMPs in Nature, and appear to represent a particularly successful structural arrangement in innate defence. They tend to be short (<40 residues), have relatively simple structures and are easy to make by chemical synthesis, so peptides of this type, both natural and designed, have been subject to numerous structure/activity relationship studies and my work aimed at understanding and improving their activity and elucidating their mode of action.

The importance of antimicrobial peptides as potential antibiotics is increasingly recognized as their use in diverse industrial applications continues to broaden. My research is centred around in the identification of new antimicrobial peptide variants, and structural studies for elucidation of their structure-function relationship for new applications. New knowledge in peptide variants from this work will also be invaluable to advance emerging peptide-based technologies which are sustainable.
